Getting Involved With the RGS-IBG Urban Geography Research Group!

Calling all urban geographers! The RGS-IBG are looking to revive our Urban Geography Research Group and are seeking keen new committee members to take the group forward.

Our Urban Geography Research Group is one of the oldest and largest of the Society’s Research Groups. Spanning the whole of urban geography, in the past it has hosted lively events and discussion, offered a dissertation prize, published book reviews, sponsored sessions and guests at our annual conference, and more.

After a period of reduced activity, we are now looking to relaunch the group this summer. We are seeking enthusiastic urban geographers to join the revived committee.

We are holding an online AGM for the group on Thursday 10 September, running 13.00-15.00 BST, to be chaired by Professor Peter Kraftl (RGS-IBG Honorary Secretary for Research and Higher Education). The main business of the meeting will be 1) to elect a new committee for the group, and 2) to put together a plan of activities for the group for the coming academic year. You can sign up to attend the AGM here.

We have a number of committee roles now open for nominations; more information is here. To be nominated (or to nominate yourself) we need confirmation from the nominee that they are willing to serve if elected, and a short statement (max 75-100 words) on why they would like to take up this role. Please email these to rhed@rgs.org by Tuesday 1 September. For roles marked with an asterisk*, the successful candidate should be a current member of the RGS-IBG, or willing to become so shortly after being elected. Early career researchers are warmly encouraged to stand for available roles except where noted otherwise.

If you have any questions, please do contact us at rhed@rgs.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
