2026 UGRG Dissertation Prize Winners!

We are pleased to announce this year’s winners and highly commended dissertations!

It has been a pleasure for everyone on the committee to review all the dissertations submitted for the Prize. We also upgraded the grading criteria to better ensure consistency and equality, and to place emphasis on the originality of the PGR research projects. (thanks to Sofie, the dissertation officer, and committee members!)

This year’s winner goes to Andre Pancholi (Cambridge), whose dissertation introduces an original concept of ‘bovine urbanism’ that explores cows as co-producers of geographical knowledge and the biological urban landscape in Ahmedabad.

The first runner-up goes to Christian Mulder (Durham). Christian’s dissertation examines what the ambiguity of the ‘Moments Contained’ statue offers to remaking public art as an affectively quiet and symbolic inclusion of Black women.

The second runner-up is Nazifa Sumiya (KCL). Nazifa’s dissertation explores the impacts of “Bee Roads” on pollinator diversity and visitation in Lambeth for a future of urban biodiversity.

Congratulations to all three on their outstanding achievements!
